Counseling Services
Fresh Steps EAP provides mental health services to individuals, children, families and service members, both in the office, and in the arena with a horse or horses. Horses provide a unique opportunity for participants to try new things in a safe environment, and get honest feedback about their approach to a new problem. It is much easier to try out new ideas with a horse than with a real person, and horses are very kind, gentle, and forgiving.

Participants who have found talk therapy session to be ineffective have gotten a lot more out of the EAP sessions, where there is more doing and less talking. This may be particularly helpful for children who find it difficult to share.

Activities can be as simple as observing the horse, or can be more interactive. For example, participants play a game with the horse, getting the horse to walk over a jump. The jump could represent something a participant wants to 'get over' in their life. One's approach to the activity is going to be similar to their approach to other issues in their life. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy uses metaphor to help people grow and change.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HORSES TO
PARTICIPATE IN ANY OF THE ACTIVITIES OR TRAININGS WE OFFER!

Give us a call today to set up an appointment for individual or family services and find out if equine therapy is the right treatment for you! Fresh Steps does not require a referral, and can provide diagnostic assesments for new clients.
